July 13, 2021 : Hot Springs AR

Happy Anniversary to us!

A surprise trip to Hot Springs was the adventure for the day. While it was only 1.5 hours away, the campsites are first come, first serve so we didn’t want to get there too late. We said good-bye to our lovey campsite and got on the road.

We made it to Hot Springs around 11am and found a nice campsites in the Gulpha Gorge campgrounds along a stream. We had time to kill before we could officially register at the site so it was into town for lunch.

We found The Pancake House and John couldn’t resist! The dinner sized pancakes were delicious - guess who ate which!!!

Next we explored Bathhouse Row : these are the original bathhouses from the early 1900s. Thought to have medicinal/healing properties the hot spring water treatments required a doctor’s prescriptions. The hot springs are due to water that falls deep into the earth, gets heated and then makes its way back to the surface via cracks.

Fun fact: the water bubbling up today started it’s journey as rain during the time period when they were building the pyramids!

Next we headed up to the tower to get a view of the whole area before settling in at the campsite. John favorite part was through rocks and sticks into the stream!

There was a little area to play in the water at the other end of the campgrounds and some hiking trails. We did part of the Sunset Trail before heading back to showers and bed.
